Embracing 2011

"Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me."
- Psalm 51: 10 (New Living Translation)

The last year has just flown by. As usual, I ask myself the same question: where has all that time gone?

Looking back, I am thankful for God's abundant provision in our lives. There were many holidays (*spies nodding heads*) while I'm always glad for friends that continue to be very much a part of my life. Also got to know a few people better on the personal front while I am slowly but surely settling down in church and cell group. Work-wise, it was a year of a few re-orgs and while this has now stabilized, there is the stress of having to deliver. *gulps* However, I have learnt to take these changes in my stride and I see this new year as a means to grow and develop skillsets that have been less utilized.

Turning 30 was also less traumatising than expected and thanks to Ed, we had a very memorable time in Bali where we became new Alila converts. In view of my snail's pace blogging, do refer to my facebook photos instead. [Note to self: target to reach the post about Bali sometime in the new year.]

Looking ahead, there are a number of things that I hope to spend more time and effort on:

1. Re-focussing on God
This has been a very neglected aspect of my life and regretably, it was a year of more self-centred rather than God-centred living. Hence, the verse above which so aptly describes the state of my heart. This needs to be a season of re-aligning the priorities in my life for a more God-centred perspective and to experience Him in a fuller manner. Not looking back at what has been lost, but looking ahead and embracing the life that He would like me to lead.

2. Growing as a Couple
As we did a stocktake, realised that we have been doing less of the more meaningful and important things (like praying together and family devotional time) now that we are married. Looking ahead, I would like to be a better influence as well as a more supportive and understanding wife. Must confess, patience isn't one of my virtues.

In addition, we thought it would be good to open up our house more often and take time to connect with different groups of friends. Ed is looking forward to cooking more and I shall learn to be more hospitable (kidding!).

3. Nurturing Friendships

Have greatly enjoyed the book discussions like Purpose Driven Life, Case for Christ (CFC) and Grand Weaver which have been good opportunities to hear from others as well as re-visit my faith. As we persevere in completing CFC and starting a new book, I do relish these moments with my colleagues who have now become friends. As busy as we all are with family or work commitments, would also like to continue spending quality time with closer friends.

In this New Year as I start afresh, I am praying for a tender spirit and the endurance to run this race with much joy and thankfulness.
