Starter Cheongsam

Source: Shanghai Tang
While I have considered getting one for the longest time, I never did take that plunge when I got married as I was too lazy to change into a tea dress and didn't see a need (then) to spend on one. Since then, I have been quietly keeping an eye out for one in view of its versatility and perhaps due to the season of my life.

However, the stingy frugal me balked at the price tags of the Shanghai Tang cheongsams even though I loved the contemporary look. Nevertheless, I remained hopeful and it seemed apt to finally get a cheongsam now that I'm in China, home of cheap tailors at reasonable quality. Or so I thought...

Turns out they are now no longer as cheap (in Beijing at least) as I had presumably thought. In any case, I finally found a shop that had reasonable offerings and there was a 30% discount which appealed to the bargain hunter in me.

So I got carried away and got not just one but two cheongsams in the spirit of testing out different tailors

All in a day's work or so I like to think...

Now that I have my very own starter cheongsam, it's time to look for an occasion... *lalala*

P.S One year later and my blue cheongsam remains unworn. So much for NEEDING to get one.
