Anyways, the one and only picture I got of our drinks reminded me of how different Ed and I are be it in terms of food, drinks, how we think, what we like etc:
- Our worldviews: He's a big picture, broad concepts thinker while I love to dwell on details and relish being able to develop an executable plan.
- Dietary preferences: He survives on a meat/carbo combo while I am perfectly fine with snacks and bite-sized meals finishing off with a decadent dessert.
- Beverage of Choice: He likes reds while I prefer white wines and darker beers work for him while I sip the whites.
- Travel: He enjoys chill-out by the beach holidays while my idea of fun is to visit every single tourist attraction in addition to trying out every restaurant highly recommended by lonely planet.
- Downtime: His idea of a perfect sunday afternoon is to get a foot massage and relax at home (preferably on his bed) channel surfing while I would want to head out, catch a movie, enjoy a cuppa of sweet milky iced coffee at the HK cafe and window shop.
- Shopping: He's a sucker for sales while I adore latest arrivals.
- Love language: He responds to words of affirmation while I'm a firm believer of quality time. Hence, imagine when each of us tries to show the other love in our own language only to be rebuffed.
In spite of how different we might be, at least we share a common set of beliefs and value systems. Yes, there might be a few disagreements and we need to learn how to communicate better. But at the end of the day, the basic building blocks are there and it's about taking that extra effort to make that person feel valued and special.
Whimsical thought: This pic reflects what Ed and I would be if we were beers, different outlooks but inherently the same make-up.[Left: Ed's dark beer and Right: Ee's white beer]
