From House to Home

After like TWO months and looking less than my usual stylish self, our shipment finally arrived. While I wasn't looking forward to the unpacking and clutter (post unpacking), I was glad to finally get our stuff and in a way, I saw this as a last step (no more excuses!) towards getting settled in Beijing.

So...I was initially fretting that our humongous mattress would not be able to make it into the elevator similar to the Singapore home incident where my Dad and Ed had to help carry the heavy weight down 6 stories i.e 12 flights of steps. In view that we were now 9 floors higher, I didn't relish having to deal with grumpy movers who have to climb up the narrow flights of stairs instead. In fact, I even came up with a contingency plan which included getting them to fork lift the mattress through our front windows. However, I was quite sure it wouldn't fit after some measuring and I was glad to have avoided a potentially compromising situation of having a mattress hanging precariously outside our window. *gulps*

In any case, everything made it except for a missing piece belonging to our disassembled clothes rack and slightly squashed shoes. The only minor glitch perhaps was that the mattress turned out to be shorter than our bed frame as China's king-sized beds are larger. This was something that we totally didn't account for! *mutters about lack of standardized measurements*

Post unpacking, I was quite pleased with the ample storage space and in view of my household essentials which I got through online shopping, this apartment was truly now a home. *pleased*

Introducing Park Apartments: love the spacious living area which would be great for entertaining and for the record, Ed's shoes take up ONE entire shoe rack.

The much talked and fretted about mattress: while there was a gap to grapple with, we resorted to using the living room sofa cushions as a stop gap measure. There...everything is just perfect. *beams*

Love the island kitchen while the magnets on our fridge have added a nice homely touch and I am glad we finally have a proper study versus random stuff on a make-shift table in Sunset Way...

My taobao-ed goodies: it's amazing how at a click of a button, I have kitchen items, toiletries and electronic gadgets delivered in merely a few days.
Finally, a good night's sleep on our very own mattress (no more spring coils to grapple with under our back) while we are ready to receive visitors at Ed & Ee's humble abode.

Tracing our journey towards getting our new place in Beijing, I am cognizant that we are very blessed and there is a lot to give thanks for as we call this city home for the next 3 years.
