The Indecision

While I was initially whining about the possibility of not having anywhere to go post August, I am now grappling with indecisiveness.

Going back to last March when I was informed about being put on Tsinghua's waiting list, I decided to activate more (or more accurately, one) options by applying to Beida (Peking University). Turns out, I had such an enjoyable time talking to my interviewers, I started to doubt my initial choice of Tsinghua and was hoping that Beida would offer me a place instead. Amazingly, I received offers from both schools and was saddled with having to make a decision. *gulps*

Must confess, the opportunity to be indecisive doesn't happen to me all that often (or so I like to think). I usually just get one choice or there is a very clear preference. In this case, I was quite torn as I busied myself with making a list of reasons for each school.

To summarize my dilemma, I was basically wow-ed by Beida's seemingly more balanced curriculum with their "humanities-based" learning whereas Tsinghua struck me as a more "engineering" school. However, the MIT connection that Tsinghua had added to my agonizing as I felt that credentially, this would be a good to have. Moreover, consulting people only added to my indecision as the discussion usually concluded with, "Actually, both are equally good schools in China, it depends on what you want." *sigh*

As the deadline to respond loomed and I remained unsettled, things finally became clearer post a friend's comment that while his heart would say Beida, his mind would say Tsinghua. And suddenly, it dawned on me why I was dithering so much. What he said reflected my sentiments exactly and just like that, I reached a decision.

Looking back, I am very thankful for the ability to have choices and also acutely aware it is not me but Him who has made things work out the way it has. I will not forget and neither will I take for granted His faithfulness.

So yes, it is back to school for me after all...and in case you were still wondering, I decided to accept Tsinghua. =)
