Uncovering District 10

In the wake of new restaurants located at old schools (along the lines of Chalk, Timber at Old School), decided to check out a new bistro-wine-bar: District 10 located at the former Monk's Hill Secondary school (very near Newton Hawker Centre).

In spite of a few wrong turns as a result of my poor navigation, we managed to track down this eatery and I was glad we didn't give up and cave in to our tummy demands to be fed ASAP.

Cuisine wise, it was my type of food (i.e all things fried and non nutritious) and I really enjoyed their new school (read Asian-inspired) thin crust pizzas: the Singapore chilli crab (which was really just soft shell crab) and the sambal chilli prawn (which reminded me of sambal stingray).

In terms of starters, the duck spring rolls were a crunchy delight while the battered seafood was fresh and tasty. In addition, the rigatoni with wagyu meatballs topped with shaved parmesan cheese made great comfort food and I was one happy camper. Although I have yet to do their dessert section justice, the creme brule was the star of the mixed dessert platter we sampled and this is coming from someone who doesn't appreciate custard-tasting dessert!

Moreover, the use of timber made the place alittle cosier while I particularly liked their long wooden tables that make fitting large groups a breeze.

First visit [starting from top left, clockwise]: Sambal chilli prawn pizza, tortilla wrap (marinated chicken, crushed peanuts and avocado), homemade duck spring rolls before finishing off with a cuppa.

Second visit [starting from top left, clockwise]: Deep fried calamari and tiger prawns, Rigatoni (with wagyu meatballs), mixed dessert platter and Singapore chilli crab pizza

Overall, I do appreciate their attempts to present an Asian take on typically Western offerings. This is definitely a find worth keeping! In fact, have been trying to think of more opportunities and friends to return with in view that I have yet to make my way through their entire menu.

In due time...
