Discovering Shin Yeh

An unabashed facebook stalker, I was inspired to check out Shin Yeh after glimpsing a fellow foodie's dining adventure. This turned out to be another place I would put on my return list and the recommendations gleaned through the pictures were true culinary gems.

Although it might be seen as pricey simple fare, the food is alot more refined than your teochew porridge kopi-tiam. As they say, 一分钱一分货 (translated as you pay for what you get), so while one pays alittle more (in view of how greedy I am, it can cost about S$30-40 per person), this can qualify as a moderate indulgence for quality food in a nice aka air conditioned environment.

Some of the more memorable dishes include the deep fried oysters (which I loved but Ed found too overpowering) and the chai poh omelette (unanimous agreement) as well as the steamed minced meat.

High class taiwanese porridge fare [top-left, clockwise]: crispy-fried oysters with dip, pan fried turnip cake aka chai poh omelette, braised beancurd, hotplate black pepper venison and minced pork with salted yolk
In case you were wondering, the above order was just for 2 pax. *lalala*
