Durian Escapades

As we were strolling home one Sunday afternoon, we spied a queue leading up to an innocuous van. As typical curious Singaporeans, we ventured nearer to find out more.

Turns out there was a man selling durians out of his van! In the midst of the small talk, we found out from an auntie that his durians were really good quality and while not the cheapest, it was worth the price. As we waited for the man to finish wrapping up the 8 durians the family in front of us bought, we were alittle nervous when our turn came and we whispered "one". Thankfully, he didn't stare us down and cheerfully started looking for the "right" durian.

While it cost an astounding $2 per seed (there were 16 seeds!), it was so good that we finished it off in one seating! Best when served chilled! *licks fingers*

Although Ed claims I like this more for the story leading to the purchase than the actual purchase, I like to think it was a sum of parts: interesting experience and really good durian.

Freshly delivered Mao Shan Wang durians!

Scrumptiously good and fleshy seeds where the taste was aromatically pungent...
For the record, I am NOT a durian fan and the only way I eat it is post freezing so it tastes more like ice cream. Hence, trust me when I say this contact is a definite keeper. Durian party anyone?
