Tenant Hunt

As I mentioned here, have been in a state of panic in view of the ever increasing to-do list leading up to my move to Beijing. In fact, the tenant hunting had been progressing at snail's pace with a slew of last minute cancellations which even my housing agent had remarked was alittle strange.

However, I (FINALLY!) managed to confirm two visits and as part of the screening process, asked  a series of loaded questions to assess the frequency of entertainment and culinary activities. As you might guess, anyone who appeared to do too much using myself as a benchmark was marked down accordingly. Amazingly, the first group seemed a good enough fit and we managed to seal the deal after a few exchanges. Was really thankful that I could tick off something on my list and delude myself on the great progress. *relieved*

In that moment of euphoria, I also guilelessly agreed to letting them move their stuff in first even though we would have to pack amidst the clutter. Alas, this was the beginning of my nightmare. What started out as just "some stuff" translated into:
  • 1 queen sized mattress AND 2 single mattresses
  • 2 study desks and chairs
  • 2 deck chairs
  • 1 wine fridge
  • a shelf full of condiments in my fridge
  • another shelf full of frozen food in my freezer
  • and countless boxes of other stuff.

Check out the evidence...
Whatever happened to they don't cook all that much and takeouts were a regular feature...honestly, they have more stuff than me lor! *hmmph*

To top it off, they were trying to negotiate a few clauses on moving in day itself which also made us terribly terribly late for our dinner appointment. In fact, was at the point where I was tempted to get them to move everything back out and re-start this process. *takes deep breath and pats hyperventilating heart*

Post traumatic event, realised that while I had mentally prepared myself on the need to renovate the place again and even though there was no perfect tenant, I couldn't help feeling all angsty (and cheated) at the resulting mess. Ed attributes this to my need for personal space and privacy which in this case was being very much invaded!

Notwithstanding my overly obsessive cleaning (sometimes), it was a sobering reminder to let go and let live. Meanwhile, there's always the next renovation to look forward to. For now, let me go wallow in salted mr brown gelato.
