A Meal to Remember

It was one of those nights where we felt like giving ourselves a treat and upon a colleague's recommendation, headed down to Bei@Opposite House. Located within a funky boutique hotel, Bei is a beautifully designed restaurant which offers re-intepreted North Asian cuisine.

And it was a great night of eating, where we were wow-ed by the lovingly presented dishes and experienced a part of Beijing which I had never seen until tonight. What was memorable for me was the squid ink risotto and the desserts which were waaaay better than what we have had thus far in Beijing. Portions wise, it wasn't the most consistent and while some dishes were practically bite-sized, there were also overly huge portions like the wagyu which we couldn't finish.

Lovely decor, thoughtfully designed teabag and lightly salted crackers with very interesting dips.

Starters for sharing where I hogged the squid ink risotto and Ed wisely stuck to the other dishes.

Gorgeously braised pork belly and the (relatively) supersized wagyu beef

will definitely make space for desserts again next time...

Post dinner walk where we encountered interesting art pieces, one of the few things I like about Beijing, accessible art.
Even though it was an experience we were happy to have tried, prices were expectedly higher as compared to a typical meal in Beijing (although one might find it acceptable in the Singapore context). Cuisine wise, we were also not sure if contemporary Japanese was really our cup of tea. Guess I would opt for a simple chirashi any day. As such, we shall reserve this for special occasions or with friends who are looking for an interesting gastronomic experience.
