Finding my wallet-friendly honeymoon

As I have been whining to whoever will listen, getting married is an expensive affair. What with the church wedding, dinner, gown, photography, videographer PLUS renovation...I haven't seen so many 4 digits-and-counting bills in my life.

In the midst of this reality check, I stumbled upon an article aptly titled, "Wallet-friendly honeymoons" which had some interesting suggestions on how to still have a honeymoon on a tight budget. So here you go:

Caveat: I'm not saying I advocate these suggestions but they definitely made an amusing read.

1. Set up a honeymoon registry to defray the cost.

Guests can purchase gifts like a massage for two, a candlelit dinner on the beach or contribute toward a roundtrip ticket.

2. Getting the most for your money.

Couples can double up as the travel consultant and organize your own travel arrangements. Do consider staying at all-inclusive accommodations and travel during off-peak periods to get great bargains.

3. Buy one get one free concept.

One of the best bargains when planning a destination wedding is a free ceremony. Hotel chains have been known to give couples a complimentary wedding when they agree to spend their honeymoon at the hotel.

4. Be blatant about being "newly married".

Apparently, these are magical money-saving words as often hotels/restaurants might feel compelled to congratulate the couple with a free dinner or a reduced hotel rate.

"Let people know that you're a newlywed and suddenly you'll find champagne on your table."

So there, now that you know what to do...any takers for my business round trip ticket to US of A? *grins*
