Sampling Sage

In celebration of my mom's birthday, we decided to try out Sage after hearing/reading positive reviews about the restaurant.

I had great fun perusing the menu and the dish names definitely didn't do justice to the dishes. Thus, do take the time to read through the descriptions before deciding!

What I really enjoyed about my meal was the simply titled "mushroom soup" which was basically a cappuccino of wild mushrooms with truffle infused scrambled eggs, asparagus and morel cream. The presentation was really pretty, with a lovely foam 'top' covering the creamy soup that complimented the lightly scrambled eggs. The strawberry cheese crumble was also a real delight and this deconstructed cheesecake was not too 'heavy'.

Another highlight was the attentive service and the owner was prompt in providing menu recommendations as well as offer her advice on wine selection. In an industry with typically more complaints than compliments, the pleasant service definitely added to the overall dining experience.

Foodie highlights:

Starters [starting from top clockwise direction]: Risotto of grilled escargot and prawns, Caesar salad, Cappuccino of wild mushrooms with truffle infused scrambled eggs and Grilled hokkaido scallops

Mains [starting from top left, clockwise direction]: Beef cheek, Duck confit, Prawn Pasta ala "Carbonara" and veal

Finishing off with Creme Caramel and...

Strawberry Cheese Crumble!!!

Overall verdict: While the food was decent, there could have been better portion size management as the dishes (especially the starters) were a tad too large for one person. As we had dutifully cleaned out our plates for both the starters and mains, it was a real pity to reach the end too stuffed to fully savour our sweet endings. Hence, do share the starters so there's ample space for desserts. Recalled a few interesting items I wished I had more stomach space for. *sigh*
