In anticipation of all those future excursions I'm going to have, decided to create a new series of posts aptly titled the "The Singapore Tourist". =)
Our first group outing took us to the Clarke Quay/Raffles Place area and the planned itinerary as follows:
- Let some brave souls experience the Gmax
- Take a bumboat ride to Raffles Place
- Go on a pub walking tour around the CBD
- Finish off with drinks at Timbre, located at the Ancient Civilizations Museum
Leading up to this trip, I had been gravely informed that the GMAX was THE initiation ride I had to take as a newbie of the Attractions team. I deftly dodged the subject as I wasn't too enthusiastic about subjecting my poor heart to such thrill rides which seemed more suitable for Amazing Race participants.
As I wasn't intending to get on that contraption, I happily loaded up on a FULL lunch in anticipation of watching other people scream their lungs out. Alas, things didn't quite turn out the way I envisioned. Before I knew it, was somehow persuaded to get on the ride and it was with some trepidation as I gingerly edged my way to the platform. *takes deep breaths*
Still managing to beam bravely...
Post ride: There were heartstopping moments especially the suspense leading up to us free falling back down to earth. As the contraption swung downwards (imagine a wayward swing that starts 60m high), all I could think was "please don't let me crash into Central Mall". According to colleagues, I was so terrified that I was literally speechless in my attempts to scream. Nevertheless, I emerged relatively unscathed although there were bruises on my thigh courtesy of an equally terrified colleague. *sigh*
Catch us in action screaming ourselves silly (from 2:40 inwards):
Taking the bumboat and going on the pub crawl was also fun as we sang irish songs at Molly Malone's and heard about the lane that Nick Leeson used as his escape route.

Traipsing around the CBD...
Finishing off with a bowl of ramen to deal with the trauma
Overall, I'm glad for the GMAX experience but it's definitely one of those "been there, don't want to do that again" moments.
Stay tuned for more adventures of the Singapore tourist....
