Was looking forward to attending a colleague's wedding at Fullerton so I could experience the dinner as a guest rather than the host.
Happy to say that the food was as decent as I remembered it to be (LOVE the wasabi prawns) and the service was fairly attentive (sitting on the VIP table sets unrealistic expectations).
More than just trying to spot check on the hotel, it was a wedding which I will fondly remember as one filled with lots of fun and laughter. In fact, most guests gamely dressed according to the night's theme - Chinois and it was delightful to see little angmoh children wearing little red cheongsams running around. *attempts to blend into the crowd with my chinois-inspired dress*
Although I didn't manage to find a chic cheongsam for the occasion, I drew comfort from a friend's response when "accosted" with the lack of conformity. He justified his relevance to the theme as "I am Chinese." *makes mental note to repeat this response when questioned*
It was one of those weddings where it was evident that the bride (and possibly groom) had put alot of thought and effort into what they wanted guests to experience. Be it the themed wedding affair to the pink feathers lining the cocktail area, everything had been planned with the intention for guests to loosen up and simply have fun. I also loved the photojournalistic style of their photos complementing quirky shots of the couple who definitely appeared to be having fun in front of the camera.
The highlight for me was the middle-aged band helmed by her uncle which was really entertaining (think Aerosmith). They played a myriad of songs ranging from golden oldies (our parents' era) to chinese, hokkien, Japanese and whatever other songs the crowd wanted. The ballroom was also momentarily transformed into the indoor stadium when it was time to wave our light sticks as the bride sang a song for her husband.
Although this is a season of weddings (we have been attending one almost every week!), it is always great to be able to share in the couple's joy and witness their commitment to each other.
