As you can tell, my list of "should try at least once" Japanese restaurants continues.
Finally made it to Chiharu one hot afternoon after hearing a friend rave about this place for a fair bit. Although it can't beat my all time favourite Sushi Yoshida, the food was still able to make me fairly happy!
As with most restaurants, their set lunches are value for money while the daily promotions are also worth going for. Unfortunately, we were a day too early for the ladies only set lunch. Greedy people that we were, we decided to share a plate of sushi for starters since there was a 30% off promo. It was definitely too much for 2 deceptively small girls and the waitress felt obliged to 'confirm' our order and highlight the size of the portions.
Food wise, our Chirashi was refreshingly good and they tweaked it slightly by using brown rice paired with slices of fresh sashimi. Guess it helps to delude me in thinking I'm eating healthfully? Unfortunately, the jumbo sushi was only average tasting although the value for money portion size sure made me happy. However, I suspect we had simply not chosen wisely and I'm definitely open to trying the other offerings on the menu as long as it's 30% off.
Light but satisfying lunch [starting from bottom left, clockwise]: Appetizer of stewed chicken, jumbo futomaki-looking sushi that had a much nicer name and Chirashi Zushi.
palate cleanser...
Overall, I had a fairly pleasant experience. Might just head back for their Weekend Chef Treat Omakase for a nice looooong lunch. Sigh...so little time and stomach space.
