My Home - Singapore

Love the innovative google designs!

Ed and I will be re-locating to Beijing for the next 3 years come November for him and April next year for me. While it wasn't all that difficult deciding, the factors that made this a 'yes' decision:
  • Proximity to his family who live in Shanghai.
  • An opportunity to get a good grasp of the Chinese language once and for all.
Now that we are taking steps towards this transition, I am honestly more apprehensive than excited while the thought of being a student again gives me heart palpitations (so I exaggerate slightly).

Not withstanding a brief 3 months in Bangkok courtesy of my parents, I have only ever lived in Singapore for the last 31 years. While my early working days have taken me to more adventurous destinations like India and Bangladesh, it has never been more than 10 days max. To make a new city my home is something I can't envision just yet.

Although I haven't watched the National Day Parade in years and neither am I very effusive about the place where I was born and bred in, this might just be one of those instances where absence makes the heart fonder (PAP included).

As we celebrate our Nation's birthday, am reminded that while no country/government is perfect, this is a place where I am glad to call home. When I bid farewell to this sunny island next year, the great variety of food, the lush greenery and fresh clean air would be just some of the other things I will miss.

Happy National Day!

P.S Aside from the fact that this is an apt song for this post, love how our city looks as Kit Chan sings her heart out. *waves Singapore flag rapidly*
