Unfortunately, this whole Christmas shopping frenzy has been getting to me. Things came to a head when I sat down at my desk one morning and continued to fret about my list of unbought presents as I entertained thoughts like:
- This is THE year to make a stand against consumerism.
- Let me just enjoy receiving instead of giving.
- We are entering a recession after all...let's be frugal!
SO here I was at zero presents and counting as I reviewed my list and got ready to hit the shops running. Alas, I was thwarted by myself. To begin with, I'm a really indecisive shopper. My gift buying style tends to be:
1. Browse around first and see if there's anything interesting/unique/suitable.
2. Go back home to mull over what to get and try to write down any ideas that surface beside the person's name.
3. Return to the shops and see if anything new surfaces while trying to look for the gift ideas I had penned down.
4. Re-visit the options and finally decide on what to get.
As you can guess, I take eons just to decide on what to buy for each person and when you have a shopping list that runs to 11, that's when you realise that time is NOT on your side. (Fine...it's not that many pple to buy for, but I can't cope!)
Moreover, I had to waste more time thinking of back-up gift ideas in view of a recent incident when I had dallied so long that there was no more stock for the item! *sigh*
Bearing in mind time constraints, I opted for Plan B, which is DASH IN and BUY.
In case you were wondering, I did survive a day of shopping not withstanding that I had to make a return trip back to the shops at night as I forgot a few other pple.
Imagine Ee returning to her office triumphantly only to realise in dismay that she forgot a few important souls as well as got presents from people she had not accounted for. ARRGGHHH...
In spite of my aching feet and shoulders from all the walking and carrying, I'm glad I embarked on this mission (and a successful one at that!) as it was a great opportunity to show appreciation, give thanks and let friends/colleagues know the impact they have made in my life.
During this season, I somehow always like Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas. Below is the version from Love Actually:
Random thought: Whenever I hear this song (esp in the above video) and it comes to the part "Baby all I want for Christmas is... You", I somehow envision this person (fine..me) pointing at Loewe, Tods, Bally, Kate Spate, Chloe, Marc Jacobs. *sniggers*
