More correctly, I'm an avid lover of cooking shows and I never fail to marvel at how clear Delia Smith is when walking me through her recipe; or how easy Jamie Oliver makes cooking seem when putting together a meal for his visitors; while it's always a delight watching Nigella demonstrate her "quick and dirty" dishes for the unexpected guest.
So....*drum roll pls* I HAVE FINALLY PROGRESSED!
Managed to successfully initiate my new pans/wok by cooking a hearty breakfast as well as a quick dinner (just to clarify, it was NOT on the same day). *beams happily*
Thankfully, no kitchen disaster occurred and the food actually turned out fairly palatable.
Caveat: The pictures are NOT reflective of my real cooking. They are just blog-worthy pictures that I thought would be a good proxy for now. Will remember to take some REAL pictures next time.
Omelette stuffed with mushrooms and ham plus sausages
Piping hot Bak Ku Teh; fried eggs with mushroom and sausage complemented with veggies bought from economical rice stall.
Overall verdict: 3 Thumbs up for the effort shown and 1.5 thumbs in terms of taste.
On hindsight, think it's cheaper to just da-bao food versus trying to cook for 2 pple. Was trying to tally up the cost of the prime ribs that went into my bak ku teh as well as the other stuff like soy sauce, garlic, MY TIME etc... Realised I should have just gone to my usual Balestier Bak Ku Teh stall for a dose of mee sua and peppery soup. Pricey as it is, at least the taste is always guaranteed.
Yet, maybe it's not always about the taste (assuming that it has to be minimally edible). Ultimately, it's never the same when one cooks for your husband. *takes out dust-ladden Jamie Oliver book to get ideas*
