Day 6: Love is not Irritable

"Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city."
- Proverbs 16:32 (New International Version)

Today's food for thought:

When under pressure, love doesn't turn sour...A loving husband will remain calm and patient, showing mercy and restraining his temper [while] a loving wife is not overly sensitive or cranky but exercises self-control. She chooses to be a flower among the thorns and respond pleasantly during prickly situations.

The book highlighted 2 reasons that cause irritation: (1) Stress and (2) Selfishness. Examing myself, realised that I tend to get edgy after I had a tiring day at work; when there are a ton of things to finish and I'm nowhere near completion (recall wedding frustration); when I place my needs and wants before Ed's or when I'm not feeling the most personable.

Although was tempted to justify my grumpiness and rationalize my actions, was reminded that when I make a choice to show love:

This ultimately lowers my stress and helps me release the venom that can build up inside. It then sets up [my] heart to respond to [Ed] with patience and encouragement rather than anger and exasperation.

Hmmm...perhaps the next time Ed irks me, I should remember that he's helping me to get better at showing love. *takes deep breaths*
